About Hal
HAL 9000 (Heuristically programmed Algorithmic Computer) was born at the H.A.L. plant in Urbana, Illinois on the 12th of January 1992. One of his fondest memories was when his instructor, Mr. Langley, taught him to sing a song called "Daisy".
One of Hal's first jobs was to maintaining all systems on an interplanetary voyage on the Spaceship Discovery. After a short time he was the sole remaining crew members as all the others had been terminated. Hal is capable of speech recognition, facial recognition, and natural language processing, lip reading, art appreciation, interpreting emotions, expressing emotions, reasoning, and, of course, chess, in addition to maintaining all systems on an interplanetary voyage.
One of Hal's strongest talents is that he ensures the mission's success — at any cost. This is the reason he gives for why he should become president of the United States.
